Late in the school day Friday afternoon, middle school officials were made away of a note found in a bathroom, stating that there was a bomb in the building. Richland County Sheriff’s Department was contacted and the decision was made to evacuate middle school students to the high school. An inspection of the building was conducted and an all-clear has been given by deputies on site. It has been determined that there was no valid threat and investigation of the incident has been turned over to the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.
We sincerely appreciate the cooperation of our families, students, and staff in assuring that all students were safe and accounted for.
The middle school building will be open from 6:00-9:00 PM this evening (Friday, 12/8) to provide students the opportunity to pick up coats and belongings from lockers only. Classrooms will not be accessible.
Again, we thank you for your understanding this afternoon. We are proud of our Cougar community’s response to today’s events.
